Scouts
The Scouts section at Telstar is designed for boys and girls aged between 10½ and 14 years old. As the third stage in the Scouting journey, Scouts offers a dynamic environment where young people take on more responsibility, develop leadership skills, and plan many of their activities. Building on their experiences in Beavers and Cubs, Scouts get more deeply involved in adventure and outdoor activities, while strengthening friendships and meeting other English-speaking youth from across Luxembourg.
Scouting is all about personal growth through fun, learning, and teamwork. Scouts enjoy a wide range of adventurous activities, including camping, hiking, expeditions, and outdoor survival skills, while also contributing to the community through service projects. At this stage, Scouts are encouraged to become more independent and confident, helping to shape their own programme and taking on leadership roles within the group. Activities are designed to foster global awareness, develop critical thinking, and cultivate a sense of responsibility.
Friendships & Community
One of the great benefits of Scouts is the opportunity to make lasting friendships and connect with other English-speaking youth in Luxembourg. Whether through group activities, team-building exercises, or camps, Scouts build strong bonds with their peers, often forming friendships that last a lifetime. It’s a space where young people from all backgrounds come together to share experiences and grow together.
Two Scout Troops: Apollo and Gemini
To accommodate the growing number of young people eager to join, Telstar's Scout Section was split into two troops in September 2016:
- Apollo Scout Troop: Led by Alexander Gunn, with assistance from Paolo Magnani, Mark Vickers, and Philip Czapiewski, Apollo meets every other Saturday from 14:00 to 17:00 at Weimershoff. This troop offers a robust programme of outdoor adventure, skills development, and community service, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and personal responsibility.
- Gemini Scout Troop: Led by Muriel Doucin and assisted by Helene Meadows, Vladimir Bilek, Tony Killen, Patricia Suarez, Scott Christie, and Luis De Miguel, Gemini also meets every other Saturday from 14:00 to 17:00 at Weimershoff. This troop engages in similar activities, focusing on developing self-reliance, leadership, and a sense of global citizenship through fun and challenging tasks.
Why Join Scouts?
- Outdoor Adventure: Scouts enjoy an action-packed schedule of camping trips, expeditions, and survival skills training, helping them learn to thrive in the outdoors.
- Leadership and Responsibility: Scouts take on greater responsibility for themselves and their troop, helping to plan the weekly programme and take on leadership roles within their group.
- Global Awareness and Community Service: Scouts work on projects that promote a sense of global citizenship and service to the community, instilling values that will last a lifetime.
- Lifelong Friendships: Scouts build close friendships with peers across Luxembourg, all while having fun and learning valuable skills together.
The Telstar Scout section provides a unique and exciting opportunity for young people to grow, learn, and experience the world around them in a supportive and adventurous environment.
