Explorers
Explorer Scouts are young men and women aged between 14 and 18, representing the fourth Section of the Scouting family. As an Explorer Scout, you step into a world of adventure, independence, and leadership, gaining the opportunity to develop life skills while having fun with like-minded individuals. This stage of Scouting offers a unique chance to take on bigger challenges, explore new horizons, and grow both personally and socially.
Explorer Scouts don’t just stick to their Unit. You’ll have the chance to collaborate with other Explorer Scouts in the wider District, expanding your network and engaging in a variety of activities that go beyond what your individual Unit offers. This means you’ll experience everything from adventure trips and camps to service projects and leadership opportunities, developing critical life skills along the way.
Why Join Explorer Scouts?
- Adventure & Outdoor Challenges: Explorers are all about stepping outside your comfort zone, whether it’s hiking, climbing, camping, or participating in survival weekends. Explorers enjoy high-energy, action-packed adventures that build resilience and confidence.
- Skill-Building & Leadership: In Explorers, you’ll learn essential life skills—such as teamwork, problem-solving, and first aid—that prepare you for adulthood. You’ll also have the chance to take on leadership roles, helping plan activities, lead projects, and contribute to your community.
- International Opportunities: Explorers often participate in international events, giving you the opportunity to meet Scouts from around the world and immerse yourself in different cultures.
- Merite Jeunesse/Duke of Edinburgh Award: Through the Explorer section, you can also work towards the Merite Jeunesse (International Duke of Edinburgh Award), an internationally recognized award for personal achievement. This award, led by Nicola Laurent at Telstar, provides an excellent framework for setting personal goals in areas like physical fitness, skill development, and community service.
- Making a Difference: Explorer Scouts engage in community service, playing an active role in helping others through environmental projects, volunteering, and leadership in younger Scouting sections. You’ll be part of something bigger, making a positive impact in your community and the world.
